Dear Rio Hondo Staff, I’m writing this letter to express my appreciation to the staff for the help you all provided during my stay in the program. I thank you all for the support and opportunities you all were able to offer me, I have met good people along the way that I will never forget. I appreciate deeply for that hand that was extended to me during my stay. I want to also thank case management for all there help and all that was provided to my family; and showing me how to manage my money, it has helped me so much and although I’m going to be on my own again I’ve believe that what I have learned during my stay here has helped me become a better person again. I’m starting off from scratch but feel stronger now than I ever did before and have high hopes of giving my children a better life and a stable home. So I thank you all again for all the programs. Activities and especially the shelter that was provided for me and my family.
Thank you,
RHTH Resident

Rio Hondo is excited to announce that Victoria Smith has successfully completed Rio Hondo Temporary Home. She has established permanent housing in the City of San Pedro. Victoria obtained a beautiful two bedroom apartment. Victoria has accomplished many goals while residing at Rio Hondo Temporary Home. Victoria improved her social skills and has become a better parent with the assistance of childcare staff. Victoria always felt she was not school material, with the encouragement of her case manager she attended community college. Victoria successfully completed two semesters and finished the Winter Session with a 4.0.
A New Leaf
One tragic accident led to a new beginning for one young adolescent. Orlando, a thirteen year old boy, after saving his siblings and losing his home in a massive fire entered Rio Hondo Temporary Home with a negative attitude. Even though he was looked upon as a hero he was angry with society. He entered the shelter as a rebellious, disrespectful, loud-moth bully who paid no attention to his schoolwork or others around him. Orlando constantly insulted and disregarded the childcare staff and his very own mother. But he was open to receive help which was the first step in his long journey to becoming a better person.
After months of counseling with therapist he had developed into a completely different individual with a new personality. Orlando’s grades have drastically improved and he is currently doing fantastic in school. He’s polite, considerate, friendly, and open towards others now. His thoughts and feelings for life and everyone around him are more positive then they were before. Willing to help everyone around him and participate in all sorts of various things has made him a well-rounded young person. All these changes in Orlando are what have turned him into the heroic and remarkable person that he is today. |
