Homeless families struggle with obtaining medical attention, especially if they do not have insurance. At Rio Hondo Temporary Home, we have been in collaboration with Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital (PIH) for a number of years. On a weekly basis, PIH nurse practitioners arrive on-site to our health clinic. They provide routine medical examinations, immunizations, and treat for minor and chronic conditions (i.e., diabetes). In addition, they offer health education and make referrals to specialists.
