Rio Hondo Temporary Home has an on-site Child Care Center, which operates Monday to Friday from 7am to 6pm and offers a variety of services to children ages newborn to 17 years old. The benefits of having a Child Care Center on-site is that the parents are able to target their efforts in either academic pursuits or employment without the additional stress and anxiety of who will be watching their children. In turn, the children are able to individually flourish through the daily curriculum that targets regulatory/sensory organization, cognitive, language, gross and fine motor, social-emotional and self-help development. Staff also provides transportation for children attending the local school district, afterschool homework assistance, crafts time and off-grounds field trips.
School on Wheels
Children from homeless families have multiple struggles and one of them is in the area of academics. Due to being displaced, children are impacted when they move from one school to another and they tend to be academically behind or they do not attend school at all. At Rio Hondo Temporary Home, we have collaborated with School on Wheels, Inc. in providing tutoring services for the children. School on Wheels, Inc. provides on-site one-to-one weekly tutoring for children in Kindergarten to twelfth grade. In addition, they supply backpacks, school supplies, school uniforms, parental guidance and assist families in navigating within the school system.
