Case Management Department- Departmental Letter (February 2009)
Rio Hondo Temporary Home’s Case Management Department is composed of two full -time Case Managers. Case Managers each have a case load of 12 families. Case Managers are involved day to day with clients’ needs such as legal issues, mental health issues, medical issues and independent living. We are happy to announce that we have been able to establish permanent housing for some of the families at Rio Hondo Temporary Home. This year has been a struggle for many families due to financial crisis. Case Managers have seen the increase in demand for transitional living. The intake line has increased 70% in the number of calls daily. Families are in need of assistance. Many of them are being evicted and their homes are being taken by the banks and auctioned off. It’s a blessing that Rio Hondo Temporary Home has been able to place 10 families in permanent housing in 2008. For 2009, we will be able to assist 15 more families with permanent housing. The families selected to obtain housing assistance will be monitored by the Case Managers to ensure that clients are successful throughout their transition.
Rio Hondo Temporary Home has been able to establish a Community Based Group on site that is focusing on keeping families together. Residents of Rio Hondo Temporary Home are getting involved with their community to make a change. Case Managers have observed the positive impact this group has placed on the residents. Allowing the residents to become involved in their community empowers them to make changes within themselves. Residents are realizing that their character is a reflection of their community. Rio Hondo Temporary Home has embraced the concept of people helping people to make a change in their community. Sincerely,
Case Management Department
